It's been talked about before, but... 0 Comments
How many people actually feel safer when the police are around?
I know I don't.
Now, I'm not really someone who actively breaks the law or has anything to really fear about the presence of cops. That being said my first instinct as soon as I see a police cruiser is to think, "Uh-oh, what am I doing wrong?" That initial reaction of mild-fear is not what you learn as a kid from your parents. They always said, "these men (and women) are your friends and are here to help." So when did my -- and likely yours too -- mindset change?
Here's a little more background on my situation. I am 20 years old living in southern-Ontario, Canada. Violence and all that stuff is not very common. Yet, my mindset is exactly as I described above. I've never been arrested or even talked to by a cop, but every time I see one I try not to make eye contact in-case they decide to randomly stop me (not that I have anything to hide).
I appreciate what they do to keep our streets as safe and clean as they are, but I wish I didn't have to feel a sense of being judged every time I see a police officer. Why should it be assumed that I'm doing something wrong? And why do I double-check myself every time? Weird.
Anyways, time to go kill some terrorists. Good ol' Counter-Strike.
